I just heard from Nisse that the Calendar 2014 for Jamtli (the Museum at Östersund) contains some on the “Bondetåget 1914” and the role our Grandfather [Nils Zetterström 1874-1965] played in this demonstration for the the King and the Defence. This was in early 1914 and the WWI had not yet started so I believe the objective for the Swedes was more to reopen the question to take back Finland!
Anyway, it is a historical issue and interesting for us to know about our Grandfather’s role in this.
All the best for all of you and Happy New Year
Yngve
additional remarks:
"Bondetåget was a demonstration to support the King, Gustav V, and for a stronger defence. I believe with the objective to take back the eastern part of Sweden which was lost to the Russians in 1809 and still in Russian possession in 1914. Note that the independent Finland was only declared in early 1920 after the Bolsheviks Revolution in 1917. The reason was simply that Lenin had some work to finish at home and had no resources to deal with Finland.
The Jamtli Yearbook 2014 has 6-7 pages on the Bondetåget and the role of our Grandfather/Great Grandfather as he was the commander of the Jämtland Delegation! He was obviously in the “inner circle” as he was invited with other heads of delegations to the King for consultations.
You can find more about the book on “Jamtli forlag” web page, all in Swedish! I’m happy to offer translations for the Americans if needed!
All the best and Happy New Year 2014
Yngve"
